Feature & Limitations Inventory

Audience: Users & Admins · Version 0.2 (draft) · Updated 2026-06-11

What exists in Capital Workbench today, what state each feature is in, and the known limitations of each. This is the single source of truth for "is this live?" and "why can't I do X?" — useful for users orienting themselves and for admins answering support questions.

Keep this page current as features ship or change state.

Status legend

Status Meaning
Live Fully shipped and available to its intended audience.
Live (partial) Shipped, but data coverage or scope is still limited.
Plan-gated Live, but restricted to a paid plan (Analyst+) or otherwise entitlement-gated.
Admin-only Only available to admin accounts.
Preview/Dev Internal sandbox; not in the main navigation, not for general users.

Note on access: the main analytics pages are viewable without signing in. AI features, report generation, exports of shared links, billing, and account management require an account. Specific paid gates are called out per row.

Analytics pages

Feature Where Status Known limitations
Performance Overview /performance-overview Live No page-level PDF export. AI intro brief needs sign-in + chat enabled (otherwise static copy). Sankey hidden when no data for the period.
Working Capital /working-capital Live PDF export supported. Some panels show "Data unavailable" when inputs are missing.
Cash Analysis /cash-analysis Live PDF export supported. EBITDA-based ratios depend on EBITDA being computable for the filer (see limitations below).
Company Financials /company-profile Live No header PDF capture; instead has in-page Copy and Export CSV. Empty rows hidden by default.
Peer Benchmarking /peer-benchmarking Live (partial) Self-described "first-pass." Peers are auto-selected by sector (a placeholder framework — see Data & Methodology). No page-level PDF.
Industry Analytics /industry-analytics Live Industry cohorts can fall below the minimum sample size and show an empty state; a fallback level may be used and badged.
Corporate Governance /corporate-governance Live Filing/document coverage depends on what's been ingested for that company (matched by CIK). Inline reader is desktop-only; smaller screens use a modal.
Insider Activity /insider-activity Live (partial) Phase 1 ingestion only covers a limited set of companies so far. The USD value timeline metric is planned for a later phase. CSV export is Plan-gated (Analyst).
Company News /company-news Live RSS-based; an empty state appears when no items match the filters. The header "News" link is a separate external Google News shortcut.
Feedback /feedback (a.k.a. /page-suggestions) Live Suggestion form for feature ideas and page requests.

Hidden / utility pages

Feature Where Status Notes
EDGAR Reader /edgar-reader Live (utility) Standalone document reader opened from a filing preview; not in the nav.
Performance Overview (Dev) /performance-overview-dev Preview/Dev Sandbox for movable page sections; production page unaffected.
Corporate Governance (Dev) /corporate-governance-dev Preview/Dev Dev variant of the governance page.

AI features

Feature Where Status Known limitations
AI Agent (chat drawer) "AI Agent" button → drawer Live Requires sign-in and chat enabled with a provider key configured; the button is hidden otherwise. Subject to per-hour and monthly quotas. See the AI Agent Guide.
Chat history sidebar Within the AI drawer Live Lists your own past conversations; you can reopen or delete a conversation. The currently active chat is excluded from the list. History is per-user.
AI page intro briefs Top of analytics pages Live Available on Performance Overview, Working Capital, Cash Analysis, Industry Analytics, Peer Benchmarking. Falls back to static copy for signed-out users or errors; manual refresh is rate-limited.
AI Reports (generation) Chat → "Generate report"; library at /account/reports Live Generation is asynchronous in production (runs as a background job). The agent proposes a report and you must click Generate — it never auto-creates one. Edit UI appears only once a report is "ready".

Cross-cutting limitations & notes

  • Data freshness: data is sourced from publicly available filings and can lag the latest quarter. Some metrics may be a quarter or two behind. See Data & Methodology.
  • "Not reported" values: a blank/"Not reported" metric usually means the company doesn't disclose the underlying line item, not that CW failed. Each KPI carries a plain-language reason — see Data & Methodology.
  • Maintenance windows: during a data sync, some /api/* endpoints briefly return a 503 with a maintenance banner; this is expected and short-lived.
  • Disclaimer: Capital Workbench presents public data only and is not investment advice.
  • App stage: the product is in early access ("Alpha"); features and limits may change.
